11/07/04 From the Susstones news page comes word that Gary and Ed Ackerson are co-producing the Mood Swings' debut album. It should be out early in '05.
11/30/04 A Mark Olson/Gary Louris acoustic tour is in the works. More should be known in a day or two whether it is a go. Gary says "this is not a Jayhawks reunion tour, just Mark and Gary having fun and playing some songs we haven't played in years." They might have the drummer from the Creekdippers playing on some dates. The tour would start Feb 18th and end March 12 (in Chicago). It would primarily be the midwest and east but they may eventually do more dates to get to all who want to see them.
11/27/04 Some Jayhawks updates from Marc Perlman: Sarah Lee & Johnny's new album (produced by Gary Louris and featuring Gary and Marc) will be released March 8, 2005. Marc also wanted to give a plug to an upcoming release of a cd by his friend Bari Koral. He notes: "One track, Bonnie and Clyde, was recorded at Ed's studio with Tim, Kraig and myself backing her, and another track called Don't Give Up was done in Woodstock with myself, Matt Johnson and Jason Hart (from Rufus Wainwright's band) doing the duties. Totally indie, self-financed and produced record." Check out her web site for more info.
11/09/04 "Somewhere In Ohio" was used as the background music in a short film about voting in Ohio during last week's election.
11/02/04 Since the Jayhawks are taking a break there isn't a lot of news to report but here are some recent things they have been doing: Marc Perlman participated in the Rock For Karl benefit October 21st in Minneapolis playing both with members of Golden Smog and accompanying Sarah Lee & Johnny for 2 songs during their set. If you would like to make a contribution to the Karl Mueller Fund please check out thekarlfund.com. Gary Louris was not able to participate because he was in TX writing songs with the Dixie Chicks. Marc and Tim O'Reagan also accompanyed Sarah Lee & Johnny the following day when they opened for the Old 97's. Sarah Lee & Johnny's new album will be out January 25th. Gary produced the album and it also features performances by Gary and Marc. Word is that Tim is working on new material during this time.
09/30/04 From the bad news department: The Jayhawks live album for Lost Highway has been put on hold. There is no further word on when it will be released.
07/11/04 Congratulations from the band to our good friend and guitar doctor John Woodland and his wife Molly on the birth of their daughter Vivian
Elizabeth, 7lb. 11oz. on July 11th.
06/23/04 Before the "Crossroads Night" show at the Olympia in Paris, Gary performed "Rockin' In The Free World" with Elliott Murphy and Neal Casal on a radio show. Listen to it on Elliott's web site.
06/04/04 The release date for the Alejandro Escovedo tribute album, Por Vida, is July 27th. More information can be found at the Or Music web site.
05/03/04 Lost Highway is shooting for a Fall release for both the Jayhawks' first album The Jayhawks (the "Bunkhouse" album) and a live album (recorded over 3 nights last December at First Avenue in Minneapolis). Tentitive date seems to be September 28th. Also the Jayhawks recorded a song for the Alejandro Escovedo tribute album which is scheduled to be released sometime this year. Gary writes "We recorded a song by Alejandro entitled "Last To Know" for the tribute record, with Tim on drums, vocals, and percussion, me on vocals, acoustic guitar, background vocals and wurlitizer, Kraig Johnson on electric guitar, Ed Ackerson on electric guitar, and Marc on bass and percussion. The song was recorded on a pleasant afternoon at Flowers Studios in Minneapolis, co-produced by Ed and Gary. The band was happy to contribute to a compilation which will honor their good friend and peer Alejandro".
02/21/04 Some interesting news from Gary Louris:
"I just finished producing a new record for Johnny Irion and Sarah Lee Guthrie which is awaiting mixing and as of yet does not have a release date or a label. I co-produced the record with Ed Ackerson at Flowers Studio in Minneapolis, with the aid of Eric Heywood on steel guitar, Marc Perlman on bass, various members of Tift Merrit's band, and members of the fantastic band The Mammals. Please check out the website www.sarahleeandjohnny.com. Ed and I are very excited about forging a new production team and are looking forward to finding more bands to work with."
