Number One on My List. . .

I work at a music lounge and have many, many customers that feel compelled to tell me what to like.

1. Morrissey - just do me a favor and off yourself already. I'm sick of the 30-something hipsters that can't get over the fact that all they did was listen to Smith's albums in high school while their friends were getting laid.

2. The Doors - sorry, I'm not in college anymore, nor do I do many recreational drugs in my spare time anymore either.

3. 'New' Radiohead - I absolutely love Pablo Honey and The Bends but after that - screw 'em. Trying too hard to be artsy-fartsy, IMO.

4. Robbie Williams - I know the guy can pack huge stadiums night after night after night, but that's only because the women AND the men attending want to sleep with him.

5. Bowie - granted, there's a whole lot of songs I like, but I don't own one album and don't feel bad about it at all.

6. Rush - this is going to piss a lot of people off probably. I can listen to one, maybe two, Rush songs in a night without wanting to stab my eardrums with flaming bamboo sticks.

7. Portishead - too trippy for me.

8. F&ckin' Phish - jam bands in general just don't suit this girl. I'll listen to the Dead from time to time, but these guys (although I do respect the fact that they are extremely talented musicians) I just don't dig.

9. The Bodeans - I live in Milwaukee and will possibly be exiled for this, but other than their theme to 'Party of Five' - Closer to Free, I really don't like them. And Sammy Llanas is an @sshole.

Those are the ones I can think of now. I'm sure many more will come to me as the day progresses.

On the Modest Mouse note, love 'em and have for years. They aren't overrated at all, IMO. The Franz album is actually quite good as well.

Hey IdleDays, have you got the Album?
I would get a hold of it if you don't, it's well worth a listen.

dang HeatherElizabeth.
you are like my musical twin when it comes to dislikes.
Rush and the Doors are 2 of my all time dislikes.
and the rest of your list i'm w/ you 100% too, except
i dont' have any preference on the Bodeans though, and i've never heard Portishead.

the only one i'd add to your list is Yes.
to them, i just say no.
they make my head hurt.

oh... and bob marley.
i think reggae is only good if you are stoned.

Bob Marley??Oh man now Jay B is gonna get the hump!!!

On the Franz Ferdinand thing I was quite wary of the hype that the music press tagged onto them but having gotten the album it is in fact great.Has a real spiky and urgent edge to it and I love those crunching Gang Of Four-esque guitars.

I have the Franz Ferdinand album, and I only like a handful of the songs. The band that people are grouping with them, however, is The Killers...and they are really something to listen to. They're like the Cure, only more hell-bent and angry.

Comparison

Anybody remember the band The Skids? Stuart Adamson/Ricky Jobson?(Into The Valley)
The music the Skids made is a more accurate comparison to Franz Ferdinand IMO
I can't hear the likeness to the Cure on their album at all.

The Killers CD is solid. Definately a cool sound. Another band that is sort of getting lumped in is The Stills. Really cool first single.

I was comparing the Killers to the Cure...in the sense that they overload the music with demonic synthesizers. Franz Ferdinand doesn't really sound like the Cure at all...but the Killers are grouped with Franz as the new hip up and comers (the new new wave, so to speak)

The Stills

The Stills did have a really cool first single. A friend of mine talked me into going to see them in concert. Every other song of theirs sounded exactly alike. I just didn't dig it at all.

Top 10 bands/artists I never "got"

Dave Matthews Band (Have never warmed up to them)
Jimmy Buffett (Huts my ears!)
Rolling Stones (sorry-no flames please)
Led Zep (I'd rather watch you mow your lawn)
John Hiatt (Try as I may, just don't get the allure)
Joe Walsh (He ruined my favorite band from the 70's)
Lucinda Williams (I know she's good, but I can't stand listening)
Alanis Morrisette (A voice that could peel paint)
Kid Rock (Does he have naked photos of record industry exec's?)
Willie Nelson (on his best day, still not tolerable)

For the record, & those keeping score, I love U2 but hate their new song.

Hehehehe... nope!

I am a great believer in tha everyone likes what they like... who's to say my taste is good, or that someone else's tase sucks...

You know... even if you want to enjoy listening to... erm.. like Justin Timberlake or something... go for it, if it turns you on and you enjoy it, fair play.

Having said that I can't understand how anyone could not like Bob Marley!!!!!!!! Dammit!!!

Not saying you should like him obviously (see post above)... but I'm surprised a Bruce fan such as yourself can;t get into an album like Slow Turning... have you heard that one? The lyrics are very very Greaser Boy-esque... and the music has similarities... I think.

Anyway, one man's coffee and all that...

A few weeks ago I had the following conversation:

My friend: I had to miss a really awesome concert because I had to work.

Me: Ooooh, what concert?!?!?

My friend: Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, and Puddle of Mudd!

Me: Uhhhh...gee, yeah, that really sucks...yeah.

Those bands annoy me. So does Creed. When my alarm clock goes off in the morning, it usually takes me a few minutes to get out of bed. Unless there's a Nickelback or Creed song. Then I drag myself out to shut off the clock so I am no longer subjected to these songs.
