ALL THIS TECHNOLOGY!!

For "Stumbling" my friend and i will record live from our Peavey mixing desk.
A little Reverb on the Vocals,as true as an Acoustic sound as we can find for the Guitars (Two Takamine en10c's)and press record on the tape deck.
This version will be as close to the RDM acoustic version as we can make it,but we are 2 Hairy Arsed Scotsmen so the harmony may sound a bit.....eh.........um................Proclaimerish !!!

It'll add to the fun

J.P.

Nothing wrong with that. Being Proclaimer-ish or being a hairy-arsed Scotsman? (Is there such a creature as smooth-arsed Scotsman?)

here comes the waiting for the sun

It's not going to sound to similar to the HTH version but this is what interpretations' all about.

Equipment Wise which may or not all make it in the mix

1 x 70's washburn dreadnought
1 x 74 Fender Strat
1 x Washburn Base
1 x Mandolin
1 x Banjolele
1 x bhodran

1 x 1977 Marshall JMP 2203 Master Lead Combo incorporating unmodified 100w valve 2103 head mmmmmmmm Marshall....Doh!

1 x Cubase SX with all manner of mixing effects etc.

I am however - going to try and make this sound as raw as possible.

This is fun!

David, what are these? I assume the banjolele is a hybrid banjo/ukelele? Love those Marshalls!

Sound of Lies

the ol' redfirecracker is gonna throw his hat in the ring. i'm gonna do "sound of lies". i'll be playing it on a cheap acoustic and maybe some extra texturing with electric guitar, esoteric percussion and keyboards. i'm not going to be trying to sound exactly like Gary, rather, I will probably take a George Harrison vibe approach. who know's, could just end up sucking really bad and then i'll say screw it.

If it's not too late and I may, I'd love to get in on this and do "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me".

I'll do it mostly with my acoustic guitar, though I may throw in my Strat. Hopefully I'll manage it and won't have to drop out.

Hey, I don't think anyone has said anything over at the Bunkhouse Trading Post about this project. Did you want to mention it there, as not all people that have their list serve come over here and vice versa

Could possibly have a full 2 CD set if you want to ask people over there, but I think the Jan 31st deadline would have to be extended a lil while, especially if you did that. But this is something that we shouldn't rush, yet something that shouldn't take several months either.

Whatever you guys all wanna do, just a suggestion that I thought of if you want to get more songs onto the project

When I brought this idea over, I simply thought it would be fun for fans to cover/record/share their versions with each other. If there are bunkhouse folks who hear about this and come over here to check it out and want to play, I don't think anybody would mind.

I'd urge those folks to sign on here (if they haven't already), pick a track nobody's doing, and give us a sense of when they could get done. (I do think it's best to keep the thread here so that we are able to avoid duplicating songs and we know who's playing what.)

I also agree that our deadline, while arbitrary, shouldn't keep us from including folks who really want to play on this... but let's try to get it all done reasonably soon so we don't lose interest. Could everyone use an extra two or three weeks to get their best efforts in? How about Friday, February 20, as a real drop-dead date?

That gives people with President's week holidays some bonus time to finish up. Anyone disagree strongly? Thanks, Kim.

Mosby,

the banjolele is a bit of a freak really but i do love it. It was bought by accident by a friend who wanted a mandolin and the guy in the shop sold it to them! It's effectively a ukelele - four strings - tuned as the top four strings of the guitar - with the body of a baby banjo. It sounds fantastic and is a personal fave.

the bodhran is a traditional celtic drum, most commonly used in Ireland. It's handheld and played with a beater. Great sound.

My wife hates me for buying strange instruments but its a compulsion!!!

"There's a little bit of truth in every lie...."

Oh man, you got me on this one David... actually that has been my welcome message on my mobile or cell phone (depending on which part of the pond you're reading this from) for some years, now I changed it into Steve Earle's "There ain't no rest for the brokenhearted" also quoted by D-Generation on their "Through the darkness" album. By the way whereabouts is Cheltenham in England?

trouble - slightly off topic but I was asked!

There's a little bit of truth in every lie is my favorite line in the world. Beats everything else hands down. I still don't know if it was a gary line or a perler. Anyone know?

Cheltenham for those who are interested is a geographical misnoma. Most people say it's in the South West - some say the midlands.

Cheltenham Spa is however a pretty good place to live. Lots of history and Georgian architecture - the Royals used to come here to take the waters not so long ago and is also the home of the best race course in the world. Every year the racing world and half of Ireland descend for the Gold Cup - a very good time to visit. We also have a very good literature festival and a folk festival for the brave of heart. It's also surrounded on all sides by the Cotswolds - a very picturesque part of the world

So picture Bristol and then go 50 miles north and you'll get there.
Picture Birmingham and then go 60 miles South and you'll get there as well.

Regarding the recordings the extra three weeks will be very helpful!

This is a great idea! Put me down for Haywire.

I'll hopefully record it this weekend... I use Cubase on an Apple iMac, with a small Tascam mixer and whatever instruments I can lay my hands on... guitar, bass and keys probably. I may add some drum loops into the mix too! I'm gonna try to keep the sprit of the song without being too faithful to the sound... but we'll see! I'll be sending my track to Frankseven on CD. Can't wait to hear what the rest of you guys come up with...
