Bald Eagle Live Nesting Cam - Decorah, Iowa

DECORAH, IOWA....."Bald Eagle Live Nesting Cam" has gone viral in our science classrooms everywhere in Iowa. I put it up on the big Smartboard screen today for the kids...up close and personal. One of the eggs may have started to hatch. She is sitting on 3 of them. Save the link and return to it to check on the progress. Fun filled watching if you appreciate beautiful events of nature :-D

The Decorah site went so viral that it was crashing.
I was amused to hear that its adjacent to a fish hashery, thinking the eagles were flying around and saw that big tree there and basically said "duh, look no further!"
It's always nice to live in walking distance to the grocer's.

We (well me and a coworker) were watching this last Friday Kim! And everytime the Eagle would move we thought the eggs would hatch!

We went back up to Wabasha for the National Eagle Fest the first wknd in March, and they have an eagle cam there as well. So far, just the male prepping things, but no real action:

Anyway, we expected the Decorah eagles to bring more fish back to the nest being so close to the hatchery, but so far we've noticed they're stockpiling land critters....first it was a rabbit, then a crow, and now a groundhog! I believe there are 2 chicks hatched now.

When opportunity arises, you take it....especially to feed a family of soon to be 5. Back in February I came very close to killing a bald eagle with my car, that had swooped down in front of me to grab a freshly killed ~road kill~ squirrel!

The migrant eagle population here in Cedar Rapids had to be one of the highest ever for the 2010-2011 season (between Oct. and Feb. of each year). They were a sight more common than even red tail hawks. You can go over to the lock and dam on the Cedar River during this time, and lose count of them. I have some pics and vids, so I loaded 3 pics here to view:

OMG that's awesome. Thank you! Another one to add to our watch list. It's funny, sometimes I'll come home to find Scott googling different animal cams. There is a mother lion with 6 cubs he was watching for a while....somewhere.
