You know Meatloaf was originally meant to be a Springsteen-spoof... but then it turned serious during the recording of the first album.

According to Todd Rundgren anyway.

On a side not, I love my mother-in-law's meatloaf - especially when she adds peppers.

Is that true? Because if it is, that's the best piece of trivia I've heard in a long time and I can't wait to repeat it.

(Gives me something to talk about other than the mileage in Prius, which gets 51 MPG average, BTW).

Meatloaf did lead vocals on about half of Ted Nugent's "Free For All" album, a right sturdy rock and roll, 70's style record.
I have that Steinman record, and I like it better than that Bat Outta Hell shizzle, but then, "better" is kind of an arbitrary word here, as I don't really dig that Meatloaf record.
My momma's meatloaf is da bestest in the world, but I dunno, Andy, that stuff you mentioned sounds mighty tasty--what kind of peppers does she add?

Yeah, I used to have Free For All.

As for the meatloaf, she adds the bog standard chopped bell peppers. Nuthin' fancy.

It's what I read in an interview with the guy... so it's true that he claimed it, whether or not he was speaking the truth? Who knows! But I'd like to think he was.

Thanks to the internet, that's a credible enough source for me!

One more dinner party anecdote...if I'm ever invited to a dinner party.

I'm digging this Slane Castle bit (but it's not viral):

That dude's guitar work on this song is pretty special...

Spicy Meatloaf.

Take your normal recipe for meatloaf. Add either Chipotle peppers or diced Jalepenos, and instead of adding ketchup, add Sriacha Thai chili sauce instead (the red sauce that most asian restaurants have on the tables).

Best meatloaf ever.

I have a soft spot for Meatloaf...or Marvin as some call him! I didn't know what the whole Paradise by the Dashboard light was a euphemism for sex!!! My dad had Bat Out of Hell on tape and he would get it out once in a blue moon to hear it.

I was really little when this album came out.
