Mark Olson ?

Anyone hear from him recently? Is he enjoying domestic bliss in Norway right now? Writing tunes maybe?

It's been almost a year, just shy a week or so since I saw The Jayhawks in Vancouver BC and I'm a little nostalgic for that vacation, sigh. Being at Whistler was like being in happyville , (until you get the bill of course, but it was worth it). Making a Jayhawks concert, as part of that vacation, was the very best icing on a glorious cake! So it's got me thinking about the band I love so much...I spun Vagabonds yesterday, damn, that's a fine album.

I digress. Any news on Mark?

Locationally, he's back in J.T. with Ingunn where she now calls the place her "hometown" as of this New Year of 2013....after about a 2 and a half year long "performer's visa / immigration status" battle. They had been staying with a friend in S. Africa for about 3 months just prior to the New Year, while waiting for this to become official. Musically? Most likely another solo album is in the works at this time from what we've been told.

Locationally.

If it isn't a word, which I suspect it isn't, then it damn well should be.

Now if we could just nudge TOR into another solo album....

It wasn't long ago that Vagabonds was spun in my house. Agreed--- so good. Glad the visa stuff is all settled now. I think Joshua Tree and Norway are very similar, must remind her of home ;-) We used to go camping and shooting there when I was a kid. Good memories.

Camping and shooting - you must have been staying somewhere just outside of J.T. park, or perhaps a private campground and not inside of the park then.

Fanboard confessional: These days, I usually scan these scant threads for the express purpose of catching a glimpse of pickle....

I see that thing in person quite regularly. Believe me, it looks bigger and better on the internet.

Taking the kids out to shoot at empty cans, that was occasionally a part of "family camping" growing up. Back then we had BB guns. Nowdays there's too many other factors involved with that rather harmless practice, and let me tell you, it still goes on. The kids use air-soft guns instead, which decorate the forest floors with tiny plastic BBs. When the birds see these bright colored things they think they're berries, scoop them up, and if they're lucky they taste them and spit them out. But when they're flying, sometimes they swallow quickly. Then they go bye-bye.
These people who live in the country, they ain't like you city folk... And there's more of 'em than you ever thought.
It's complicated... that's what she said.

I was a wee lad of 8 or so, so the details are iffy. I'm pretty sure it wasn't actually IN JT. It was there that I first saw the surface of the moon in a telescope. So cool.

Yeah, for us it was old tin cans. Lots of fun.
