Only Boy In NYC

I heard this Simon and Garfunkel song on 'FUV and at first thought it was a Jayhawks "mystery" song I hadn't heard. I don't know the whole S and G catalogue, and this great tune really sounds like a Jayhawks song; Paul Simon really sounds like Gary.

Was the song "The Only Living Boy in New York"? That's one of my fave S&G tunes. It's a beautiful and really sad song. Paul sings to Art (aka Tom, from when they were known as Tom and Jerry in the early early days) about him leaving to film his movie (Catch 22 maybe?). It talks about how lonely and abandoned Paul felt. When he sings, "Hey, let your honesty shine, like it shines on me," man, that hurts. That was their last studio record together. Art's angelic background part is sureal. Good stuff.

Eerie this...I heard this only this afternoon on the radio and thought how refreshing to hear the original rather than the Everything But The Girl version.

Great song, from the stunning hit-laden Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Just listened to that record a couple of weeks ago. S&G certainly were a template for O&L.

Remember "Only Living Boy..." in the film "Garden State"? It provides the perfect emotional note.

It's a beautiful song. I've actually been playing it a lot on the ipod recently.
