Favourite comedians

I have been listening to Bill Hicks Rant In E Minor and bemoaning the loss of Hicks too young. On abortion: You're not a person until you are in my phone book. Ha ha! Just wondering about the board faves?

Bill Hicks
Sam Kinnison
Abbott and Costello
The Marx Brothers
Richard Pryor
Bill Cosby
George Carlin

I also loved Lucille Ball, Bob Hope and Jackie Gleason as a kid. Modern comic "talents" just don't for it for me. How anyone in their right mind think that Adam Sandler, Will Ferrel et al are funny is beyond me.

I never got George Carlin...

My top 10 are:

1) Demitri Martin
2) Dave Chappelle
3) Flight of the Conchords (Hilarious New Zealand duo...now on HBO)
4) Kevin James
5) Stephen Wright
6) Dane Cook (way over-exposed, but still very funny)
7) Albert Brooks
8) Eddie Izzard
9) David Cross
10) Louis CK

Eddie Izzard is great too , nice one. Stephen Fry always makes me laugh too even though he is not strictly a comedian.

I've just got into George Carlin, very funny man.

I like Billy Connolly.

I used to like Lee Evans, he was good live. His materal doesn't change much though.

Bill Bailey is quite good.

Laural and Hardy will always make me laugh more than most though.

Funnist thing, I was reading about a guy who he heckled. He was passing in front of the stage, going to the jax, and Manning said "ah we know what you're doing!" and the guy said back to him "aye mate, I am off for a piss before the comedian comes on".

Ha ha!

Just watch the Wheeltappers and shunters social club and you'll find the cream of the crop there.

Oh, Sam Kinison! Filthy, filthy, FILTHY mouth - wicked funny. Another one gone way too soon.

Abbott and Costello mostly don't do it for me, but "Who's on first?" is one of the greatest routines in history and makes me laugh. Every time. I totally agree about some of the younger ones. Whatever Adam Sandler and Will Ferrel have completely escapes me.

Lewis Black - hysterically angry guy
Robin Williams - seems popular nowadays to bag on him, but his standup is still some of the funniest stuff around.
Chris Rock - genius!
Whoopi Goldberg - another genius standup
Kathy Griffin and Paula Poundstone are both ladies who make me laugh...hard.
And back in the day Joan Rivers was great. I saw her in a club about 35 years ago, and I still remember it. She was a tiny little thing with a big mouth, and funny, funny, funny.

I'm sure there's someone I love I've forgotten.

I used to love Alas Sith and Jones (Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones). Those face to face sessions were a riot. Sure the idea was lifted from the brilliant Pete and Dud
