Keswick 10/22 Thread

I just got tickets for the Keswick Theater this Sat. I've never been there. Any info on whether the security is tight with video/audio taping and pictures? Im thinking Im gonna just enjoy the concert w/o worrying about archiving it but I could change my mind. Is there anyone else here gonna record it? Whats the venue like? Thanks.

Is Gary and Mark OK with recording this tour??

Scuzz

Hey scuzzles,
I have been to the Keswick, it's a pretty good place. Not sure about the taping policy, though.

just checked tickets, and seems to be only row Z left!

I'll be there @ Keswick Theatre - old theatre that has not been refurbished like some other older venues (i.e Count Basie in Red Bank, NJ)

I'm taking my 16-year old son to his first concert - we're both really looking forward to it!

If any of you all are into a meet-up before he show, I think this is where my husband and I will be. PM me if you think you can make it.

Scuzzles, I think the band has a "don't ask; don't tell" policy about taping. Taping seems like a common thing at the Keswick for the shows I've seen there. Video would be difficult, as it's a really "sit down" type of theatre, but discrete audio should be fine.

Bought two tickets last minute and met a couple friends who live a mile from there had dinner and drinks at the Keswick Tavern accross the street. My wife went over their house with the wife, and her husband went to the show with me. (My wife is not a huge Jayhawks fan but he is)

So we say our goodbyes and head into the show figuring to have a couple more drinks inside the venue. Charming old theatre with great acoustics.

A few songs into the opening act (Tift Merritt) they scan our tickets & we go in and head right to the bar… there is nobody in line. One of the 3 bartenders says “we are closed”

WTF???? Excuse me???? Closed?????

“At the artists request, we won’t be serving during her performance”

Excuse me???? Closed????? WTF????

Everyone around was just as shocked as I was, you couldn’t even buy water. Apparently it was a bit noisy and she had a hissy fit on stage and yelled for quiet.

So after her snoozefest of a set they re-opened the bars and you then had to wait an hour for everybody to get drinks. The Jayhawks took the stage to a 2/3rds filled theatre because everyone else was still in the lobby getting drinks.

It was really weird

I wish I would have known you were there. You should have looked us up. That is truly WTF about Tift snoozefest Merrit's demand that they close the bar. That takes balls. Husband and I got there early and got a drink before the show started, but I did notice that the bar line was from hell at one point. I thought she was kind of boring. My husband liked her.

I don't think the audience was too dead; I was hooting after almost every song. Gary seemed pissed about the Fuzz Face screamer. Nutshell and I talked to him very briefly after the show, and he seemed in a not great mood to me. Mark didn't come out to interact with the fans at all, which seems weird to me because Mark is always very sweet. I got the feeling some bad vibes were going on behind the scenes. Who knows. I'm overly sensitive. Maybe Tift Merrit was being a general pain in the ass all around and it affected the mood of the band. I do know that no one was getting signatures or photos with her after the show.

Oh.. the show was awesome, but the new stuff seemed a little flat. Marc seemed disinterested in any song (Tampa, Angeline etc) that was put out while he was not with the band. The audience was DEAD (perhaps from the lack of liquid refreshment) - seroiusly almost no one was standing/dancing/grooving.

Two Hearts and Over my Shoulder were absolutely SPECTACULAR

Dead, aside from the gentleman shouting "FUZZFACE!" and "YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" at random intervals.

At the Beacon, Mark politely stepped aside during Tampa to Tulsa and hung out with Perlman. Thought it seemed normal since it gave Tim the spotlight and allowed the crowd to see him. (It was also the only time Perlman interacted with anyone else in the band.) Mark O sang part of the chorus in Angelyne at the Beacon and it seemed pretty normal to me. I guess it is all perception.

I was thinking this morning about the whole "what songs should Mark learn" thread. After seeing the show, it clearly doesn't make sense for the band to do too many songs where Gary and Mark aren't singing together. As much as I might like to hear Trouble or SIFARD, it would be weird having Mark step aside frequently or just join on one line of a chorus. It was great seeing them sing together and no issue with mixing in a song or two for Tim or from various solo efforts but as a whole I think the band is using the right formula.
