Unhappy Kirby Puckett

just heard the news that #34 passed away a little bit ago, I'm really, really sad.

I knew that it wasn't looking good after he suffered the stroke yesterday, but I'm kinda in shock, I can't believe he's gone.

I'm not a huge sports nut, but I love baseball, and I'm
a lifelong MN Twins fan, and this just sucks. I grew up
watching Kirby play, and he was always one of my favorites. Yes, he had some problems off the field after he retired from the game he loved, but no one's perfect. I'd prefer to remember the smiling, laughing Kirby, the one who would rob batters of extra base hits by making great catches in center field, the one who would always run hard down to first base, even if it was a routine ground ball out, the one who hit the game winning homer in Game 6 of the 1991 World Series to send it to Game 7 and a Twins championship.

sorry for the rambling post, but i don't really know what
to write right now, and I know that I'm not the only
one who feels this way...

it's ok to ramble, and I feel the same way. Though a lifelong (well, since they've been a franchise at least) Texas Rangers fan, I always had the deepest respect for Kirby Puckett both on and off the field back in the day, and I loved the red hot Twinkies when they were on top of the world back in '87 and '91.

Rest well, Kirby!

It certainly is a shock to lose such a beloved local hero like Kirby at such a young age. You said it well Ben. His enthusiasm for baseball was a joy to behold. I really haven't followed baseball since he and Kent retired. It just isn't the same. I am so sad too.
Heck, I talk about him at work all the time when I explain why I run a perticular vision test on my patients.

God bless him and his family~

It is very sad indeed. At such a young age. I have not really followed major league baseball as much either since Puckett, Hrbek, and the rest of the Twins from the '87 and '91 championships retired or went their separate ways.

Kirby had a level of character and enthusiasm both on and off the field that was rare for any professional, whether in athletics or any other endeavor. He will be dearly missed.

God bless the memory of Kirby Puckett, and his mourning family and friends and fans around the world...

RIP, Kirby...

I saw Kirby in a grocery store once. He couldn't move five feet without someone coming to ask for an autograph. He looked like he was having the best time ever, spending time with the fans, not many stars do that anymore.

Kirby Puckett

Living here in SW Ohio I'm a Reds fan and a National League
fan, but I always loved to watch Kirby Puckett play. What
a GREAT player and from what I've heard a fine person too.
I'm sad to see him go. Especially so young. My age actually.
Rest in peace, Kirby.

Kind of feels like a member of the family died, even though I never met him.

Nice avatar Jedey.

I'm extremely bummed, also. I've been a lifelong Twins fan and Kirby was a favorite of (kinda) my generation. His start was about when I was at the age where I fell in love with baseball. I watched and rooted him on his whole career. The two Twins World Series are still two of my most memorable. Kirby was obviously a huge part of that.

He will be missed by many.

Peace,
Jeff

Thanks. Here's the full sized photo I pinched. It's not a whole lot bigger but easier to see.
