"He could play the guitar just like a-ringin' a bell."
I have never been -and I will never be - more than a dreamer guitarist. As a lefty without innate musical sense, I've never found a straightforward path to learning the instrument. But that's never stopped me from imagining the songs I'd most like to be able to learn to play.

Some are unfathomably hard and some are easy, but here are just 3 I would give most anything to be able one day to say, "Yeah, I can play that."

Pink Floyd - Goodbye Blue Sky

Paul McCartney - "Blackboard" (as he calls it in the "Unplugged" session)

Lindsey Buckingham - Big Love

You guitarists and dreamers - which ones would you choose?

The solo in Sultans Of Swing. I could never master that or most any fingerstyle part by Buckingham, partly because his style is so unorthodox. Blackbird sounds cool but if you can move up and down the neck and pluck three strings it isn't too tough. I'm okay flatpicking, but besides some travis, this is about the extent of my open chord fingerstyle:

Here's some for you.

John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers ~ The Supernatural

Stevie Ray Vaughn ~ Riviera Paradise

Santana ~ Europa (Earth's Cry, Heaven's Smile)

That's not fair, Jedey. Peter Green isn't human.

No, he's "Supernatural".

The opening riffs to Spirit Of Radio.

This from Steve Wynn. I love the shit outta this song and the studio version is smoking hot.

I started trying to learn 'Goodbye Blue Sky' recently, actually just stumbling onto it while messing with the guitar. Gave me a new perspective on Gilmour's technique. I imagined singing it along with some harmonizing voices around a campfire or some such thing.
I worked on 'Sultans of Swing' years ago but just didn't have the patience to nail all 612 of Mark Knopfler's licks in that puppy. A hand injury years later sort of cancelled that one, but it's still a desert island song to learn when I have a little more time to commit to it.
"Spirit Of Radio", someone showed me once, and suggested I get a flange pedal to make it sound right. Lifeson's in a league of his own...

Love that line in Lighted Stage where, is it Portnoy, who says "anyone can play YYZ but if you can play La Villa, that was cool".
