question - Marc Perlman backing vocals

My question is admittedly somewhat trivial, but curiosity pushes me to inquire--do any Jayhawks tracks feature backing vocals by Marc Perlman (aside from his lead vocal turn on "I Hear You Cry"? I don't have most of my Jayhawks CDs on hand to check, but I have been viewing many clips of live Jayhawks shows and Perlman doesn't sing in any of the ones I've seen, and is sometimes the only of the 5 Jayhawks not singing.

Thanks,
Ken

Hey Ken,
Many on the board are more qualified than I am to answer this question, but I can't think of any recorded tracks that Pearly sings back-up. And live, either with the Hawks or Golden Smog, he isn't even mic'd for vocals. When he plays with Janey, I'm not sure if he sings at all either.

I do remember seeing him mic'd on a few TV performances of Save it for a Rainy Day, and saw him approach it a time or two, but didn't really hear anything.

I can play my guitar and sing, but cannot while I play bass for some reason. Maybe it's a challenge for Pearly too. We know he CAN sing. He just doesn't much. And the guy can write some great tunes too. Very talented. And, on occassion, he'll smile :-)

Marc was vocal mic-ed back in the old days (80s). On occasion he would sing lead vocals on covers like "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" or "Almost Cut My Hair." Janey & Marc only did a handful of shows in 2007 and 2008, but Marc sang at all of them - lead and backup.

This is what I meant by "others more qualified to answer." :-)

I would have loved to see Marc and Janey play. That's a solid EP they produced. I'd love to hear him sing more! If I ever get the chance to ask him why he doesn't more, I will.

Thanks for correcting my misinformation. I wasn't a fan in the 80s. Sadly.

Thanks for the informative responses, including the interesting photos sent by takemewithyou and bryguy's comments. The photo of Perlman singing "Cut My Hair" was especially intriguing--Perlman is playing guitar and Kraig Johnson is at keyboards, and Johnson and the guitarist in back both seem to be looking at Perlman in an amused way, suggesting Perlman singing is an unusual event. I'll try to find the EP by Marc and Janey.

Thanks,
Ken

I recall reading an amusing bit about this in an old article... perhaps one from the SOL era?

It was a printed group interview and Perlman was questioned about vocals; he replied (and I'm paraphrasing here, of course) "If I ever happen to get close to a mic [during a performance], Gary gives me a dirty look."

I believe there was a layer of jocularity to his response but there ya' go. :D

Yeah, and let me know when Ed re-presses that compilation of The Dig. I bought one on eBay and it was a burned disc with zeroxed cover art and it was overpriced for that... When he puts it back in his store I'll probably buy a few of 'em so my friends who borrow and never return things can just have it..
Awe, yeah, I know this is soooo off the topic.

Actually, I'm glad to know this Marc/Janey EP is still available as I have someone to get one for.
As for the rest of you folks who go to the site to get this, check out that band Two Harbors on there...
Ok, enough shameless Suss-plugs...

It's a solid EP. Janey has a really nice voice. And Marc has crafted very memorable songs.

"Love Is The Drug" would loved to have seen this live.
