That sounds wonderful Joyce!!! Thanks a lot! Now go and have yourself a well deserved rest!

Yep, sounds pretty good. Mostly HTH and TTGG stuff, I expected more new songs or mystery demos (maybe later on the tour). Thanks!

Thanks Joyce, you're a trooper!

Mark's songs from "Political Manifest" are gone from the set is the first impression.

What a treat for you Joyce!! So happy you got to the show. Thanks for posting.

Kinda glad to see the Geo W songs off the list. I felt they just didn't fit well with the rest of the show last year. This is a pretty set for Jayhawks fans. Looking forward to hearing more:D :D

Well done Agent Carlile:cool:

Good reportage there Joyce! Glad you saw the boys play. I would like that setlist. The Political Manifest stuff might be Mark's thing but I am not sure it was Gary's bag. Sure ain't mine I can tell ya.

The POlitical Manifest stuff was the only slight downer about the first tour. That setlist looks excellent though!

Hello again everyone... Well, just got up and here's my little show review.

We flew into Phoenix on Thurs. and drove down to Tucson. When we got there we went downtown to scout out the theatre etc. Then we spent the rest of the day sightseeing and getting much needed sleep after only a few hours the night before... Got up Fri morning and drove further south of Tucson, stopped at the Mission San Xavier which dates back to the 1700's. We've been to all these places in Tucson before, but the weather was nice and we needed something to do. Then we proceeded further south down I-19 to kill more time, stopped at the Desert Diamond Casino and lost a little bit of money. :( Not much though, as I'm really not a gambler.....

Anyway........on to the show. We got our tickets at will call and went across the street to the Hotel Congress (a landmark hotel from the 1920's). We got a bite to eat in the Cup Cafe there and sat in the lobby until showtime. While we were waiting, Mark and Gary came in. Talked a bit to them and then they were off to write up the setlist. Gary was just mildly surprised to see us there, although he said he didn't know we were going to be there and asked if anyone else had come with us. I guess he knows by now that we'll show up just about anywhere! :D

For anyone who has not been there, the Rialto Theatre is an old theater from the 1920's too. Has been in disrepair and is still in renovation. They need to put in more permanent seats, new flooring and A/C. Although we got lucky and the temp was in the mid 70's, I'm sure it can be unbearable hot in there in the summer. The show started almost 1/2 hr late (not sure why), Mark and Gary sat on stools and of course it was all acoustic. A really different feel from last year's solo shows. Sound was wonderful in the theatre. There were probably only about 100 or so people there, but everyone seemed to know their music and were enthusiastic for the guys. Show seemed a bit short (1:20). I was talking to the guy next to me and he thought so too. He's been reading the board and remembered the setlists from last year's shows. I think it being the start of the tour, things will pick up and I'll bet the shows will lengthen later. I agree that the Political Manifest songs were good to drop (although I do agree with the sentiment). The biggest surprise to me was Mark singing on Angelyne. Sounded really good too. Mark and Gary seemed in great spirits and enjoying themselves....

Of course they signed and talked to the folks after the show as usual and I bugged them (again) for a picture... I think the CD's (Women's Club 2) were selling pretty good. Gary asked me how I liked the format (just the 2 of them) versus last year. I told him it was great and I liked it better and he agreed that he liked it better this way too. Haggy, Precious Time was to die for!

So, after a little more sightseeing and looking at more saguaros on the way to Phoenix, we got home about 2am last night (morning). I'm really glad we made the trip. I'm sorry the shows weren't better attended, but the people there enjoyed seeing the guys. As someone said, they don't get a lot of "good" shows in Tucson..... Take care, Joyce

If I can figure out how to do it, I'll post a couple pictures. The theatre was really dark, so nothing turned out very good, also, no one else was taking pictures and I didn't want to use the flash.... I did get another show poster signed!

Sorry this post has gone on so long...:o

Wow!! What a wonderful review Joyce! Sounds like a terrific show, and an all around great time. I can only imagine what the two of them sounded like...just two guitars and the univoice! :D

Precious Time is such a beautiful song, I'm so glad you got to hear it!

Rock on Joyce and Jerry...what road warriors you two are! :)

Sioux City for an encore? That is just kick ass. They need to take this tour into the summer across the U.S. Forget Goldensmog.

Thanks for the review. I'm going to the first night at the Troubadour in LA. I've been waiting 11 yrs for this reunion. The last time I saw the Jayhawks was in '95 and it was also at the Troubadour. I have some great pics from the very front at that show. Chris and Marc from the Black Crowes came out on both nights to sing a couple of songs. It was AWESOME. I can't wait to see them tomorrow night and I LOVE that set list you posted. I'll give a review on Tuesday. Hopefully I'll get to meet the guys afterwards.

Alright, it's on. 29 more hours until showtime. And the Lakers are only down by 1. Woo Hoo!!!!

04-30-2006, 09:29 PM
Thanks for the review, Joyce. I wish I could see them this time. I was hoping for an all acoustic set last time around. Hopefully there will be some good recordings of these shows.

Here's a few pics we took. They're not very good as you can see......

(that's Jerry's finger in the shot of me, Mark and Gary...

Great review! I was in AZ that week all the way from PA, but couldnt make the Tuscon show. I saw the Black Crowes instead on this nite in Scottsdale. Great Crowes show, however I wouldve preferred seeing Gary and Mark. Was this show recorded??
