The theater only holds 850 so it will be very up close and personal.

Good show, but hopefully tonight, this will happen:

1. Doors will open on time;
2. Dawes will start on time;
3. Dawes will stay within their allotted set time;

All of the above to ensure that:

4. The Jayhawks will get to play a non-abbreviated set not cut short by a 10:30 PM curfew.

? (cover? Gary and Karen duet Ė didnít catch what it was)

This was "For Me Again," a Gene Clark composition first demo-ed by an early version of The Byrds in 1964. It was never recorded again by The Byrds and the original demo version released on the Preflyte compilation in 1969 was the first time most people first became aware of this haunting song. The song is a particular favorite of Karen's and the band had been working on it over the last few months. It was finally debuted by The Jayhawks down in Mexico last month at the Todos Santos Music Festival.

Somebody told me they played at a place called the North Bar the night before the first Downers Grove show. Did anybody go? Setlist?

Didn't go, or know, but I saw some photo's on FB. Looks like it was billed as Kraig Johnson and Friends show. Pretty much looked like an acoustic Hawks set with KJJ at the helm

Yeah, they were leaving the Tivoli for the @North Bar Wed. night when we left them. Tim asked if we needed directions to go see them, but we didn't go, since it was snowing and we were going south anyway. Would have been nice to see them in a small club though...

The gig after the Wednesday Tivoli show was at a place in Wicker Park called At North. It's something of a miracle that it even happened - we had to drive almost an hour through some pretty awful weather to get there. Some band had played earlier in the evening so there was equipment already there. It was billed as "Kraig Jarret Johnson and Friends" for "legal reasons" but after a couple of KJJ numbers it was a full on electric Jayhawks set. There was a lot of switching instruments ala Golden Smog, everybody got to sing lead, and, needless to say, it was a fairly loosey-goosey affair (there was an open tab at the bar for the band :eek:). The bass player from the opening band pitched in on a few songs and Pat Sansone from Wilco sat in near the end. There was also an unidentified sax player who literally materialized out of nowhere to throw down a couple of awesome solos during a fantastic 10 minute performance of "Spooky," an old Kraigy showstopper that some people here are familiar with. They played about 90 minutes and the setlist was very spontaneous and wide-ranging. All covers except a few Kraig/Run Westy Run originals at the beginning. I will cobble together a setlist in the next few days. Classic rock, old country, shlock - you name it. It was an extraordinarily enjoyable, memorable set, very much harkening back to the old Golden Smog days. Everybody on stage was clearly having a great time and the good vibes were infectious. The cover craziness even bled over into the Thursday set at the Tivoli (see CZ's links upthread). There were maybe 25 patrons in the bar who braved the terrible weather - the city was practically shut down by midnight and the driving on the interstate was extremely treacherous. We didn't get back to Downers Grove until about 3am and it was near white-out driving by then. I'd been up for 21 hours straight but it was hard to get to sleep after a very exciting day.

How cool is THIS?! Joyce, you are some cool customer. :)
Would have loved to catch the small show. And to hear "For Me, Again".
Really hope they put that song into rotation. Any video of them doing this around?
