I'm thinking of a Replacements song...

That is *NAUGHTY*! ;) You'd better behave yourself, JoMama, because
Santa and his elves are watching! :p

Star Tribune review of the show (http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/blogs/285610351.html)

Riemenschneider was sitting next to me.

I didn't like such a dork taking notes and writing down the setlist, since he was doing the exact same thing. ;)

Even borrowed him a pen when he dropped his on the floor toward
the end of the show and couldn't find it in the dark!

I'll post some thoughts/setlist soon...

If taking notes and setlists is dorky, then I've been dorky for years. :D

Seriously, this sounds like a really cool show! Thanks for posting the review!

Haley kicked off the evening with the title track of "Last War", her
excellent album from this year. I didn't keep track of her whole
set, but I know she did a couple more from that album,
"Heaven's Made For Two" and "From A Cage". Plus a brand new song.
And "Car Wreck", an older selection from her back catalog.

Since this was a "Song Exchange" show, each artist has to cover 3 of
the other person's songs. So Haley started off on piano with "Blue". Different
key from the original. She was playing way up on the high end of the
keyboard. Seemed a little faster, but maybe that was due to the way
she was playing. But it sounded great, and Gary later complimented
her on it. Then she did "Big Star" on guitar, pretty true to original
minus the distortion. It's interesting, that she and Gary both have a song with that title.
Then Gary came out and backed Haley on "She Only Calls Me On Sundays".

Haley left the stage, and Gary began his set with "True Blue" and "Need You Tonight".
Then he did a couple new songs. Sounds like he's going to start work
on the next solo album in February. "I'll Be Your Key" came first. I like
that one! Then "Mr. Updike", which he also played at the show in Hopkins earlier this year.
Next was "Omaha Nights", but that one sounded a little rusty.
Then another new song. Gary didn't announce the title. I
should've asked him after the show what it was called, but I
forgot. D'OH! Something in the lyrics about "quiet corners" and "empty spaces" .

As part of the "Song Exchange", Gary covered Haley's song, "Anyway, Rattlesnake".
Then he played "Save It For A Rainy Day" and "Everybody Knows". Next was a couple
more new songs called "Lovers Of The Sun" and "Useless Creatures". Those were
followed by "You Look So Young". This was a nice surprise, since this was MIA during the recent
Jayhawks shows.

Haley came back out and they performed her "Big Star" and "Kid October".
They ended the set with a cover of the Statler Brothers song,
"Flowers On The Wall"

For encore, they did Haley's "Kill The Fun" and then "Tailspin".
Gary and Haley wrapped up the evening with a cover of the Frank and Nancy
Sinatra song, "Something Stupid".

Awesome, Ben. thanks for the details... I love and miss the "hometown specials" of these folks. :) I hope the Cedar keeps doing song exchanges, that's nothing short of a hootenanny...
