I always enjoyed what he brought to the Jayhawks and the Long Ryders are a fine band all on their own. I think he lives in Richmond Va. It would be fun if he could join them for a few shows in the east this fall.

He seemed to just up and disappear. Anyone know who he is playing with these days or if he is still active?

There is always a chance Stephen will pop up at a show in the WDC area. If I was a betting man I'd look at the band's upcoming show at the 9:30 club.

Stephen sat in with Gary at his solo show in June 2013 in Vienna, VA at Jammin' Javas. He played about half the set and it was glorious. Stephen is a lovely person and his musical talents are extraordinary. His tenure with The Jayhawks was all too brief but he made a huge impression while he was in the mix.

found on the ytube of Stephen playing with his old band a few months ago, The Long Ryders, who oddly enough had a song called "Run Dusty Run." odd coincidence in similarity to Run West Run?

Wow, they even got the "Deluxe Edition" reissue treatment. http://www.amazon.com/Native-Sons-Expanded-Remastered-Ryders/dp/B004S3AU5A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410179788&sr=8-1&keywords=Long+Ryders

As for Run, Westy, Run, it was a teen angst book from back in time... http://www.amazon.com/Run-Westy/product-reviews/0671293354/ref=dpx_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1

Any time I got to talk with Stephen McCarthy after shows, he was always so kind and sweet. Love him!

Saw the Long Ryders as a teenager many years ago. They were excellent.
As PD said, DC would be the likely place to catch Stephen, if he were going to play with them. Would love to see him play with the Jayhawks again!
