I've been listening to his new album a lot lately and it's great. Mellow vibe, lot of acoustic stuff on it and good songwriting. I think his vocals are pretty good too, even though he's not a regular front man. A lot of open-hearted songs on here, and some are several years old. I love the organ on here as well. Probably one of the best "Americana" albums I've heard in a while.

Anyway I think Jayhawks fans would dig it and should check it out. If Gary and Marc did a project together some day I would flip out!

He even released a video which you can check out on his site -

Do you have the album yet? Just curious to what you thought of it....

Not yet, but I thought those two songs on his site were quite well done; some fully-realized songwriting. I haven't followed the Black Crowes' solo and side projects much, so checking this one out was a pleasant surprise.

You should get it, you will enjoy it I'm sure.

Also check out his 1st solo album It's About Time, great stuff. I'm sure JayB will back me up on this!

As expected, this particular shop gets these things when they first come out, and they only get one or two, so they'll have to order it for me...

Wish I could go to a record store more often.. the best one is kind of far away from me now. I often have to resort to ordering them online.

It's About Time is bloody awesome... and I'm loving the new a lot too.

Seen him a couple of times on his current tour... he's on fire right now, and clearly loving what he's doing. He's got a great little band with him too...

count your blessings.... Harvest Records is Asheville's jewel, heck, Western North Carolina's jewel. A wonderful store reminiscent of our favorite stores back home in Jayhawks land... I went in there, the owner having promised he was going to be getting the Mark Olson record, and of course, since it's an import label he wouldn't have it on release day. Well, silly me, thinking there are miracles in this world, I was driving by on release day and I decided to step into this den of musical treasures. Of course they didn't have it, but gosh, you just can't leave a store empty-handed... Assured Mark's LP and CD are on their way, I settled for a set of Jimmy Rogers' Chicago blues, and Meet John Doe, that awesome first solo from the X fella. It could have been worse, much worse. There's some jazz heads trading in some killer CDs from the likes of Albert Ayler, Sonny Stitt, Don Bias, Duke Ellington, and my man Sonny Rollins. Thankfully, I was skint and didn't have the pay-you-later plastic card on hand...
This is just another version of that old card game called "Mark Fokkin' Ford" that we've all played...
