Gary was on the money, what a great voice. I have been waiting for five years to see him live, and it also turns out that he is the coolest rock star on Earth as he happily posed for a picture with me and my wife. I videod with my Sony cybershot digital most of the show (that 4 gig memory card was the best investment on Earth). My time is limited as we are med students but I would definitely be up to mailing out some DVDs of the video files if anyone is willing to trade. I am always looking out for live Jayhawks. I don't by any means have a copy of the setlist but here are the songs I recorded:

1. Omaha Nights
2. I'd Run Away
3. True Blue
4. Every Word
5. To Die a Happy Man
6. She Only Calls Me On Sundays
7. ?
8. Sound of Lies!!!!
9. Waiting for the Sun
10. ?
11. Black Grass
12. Save it for a Rainy Day
13. DC Blues (Partial)
14. ?
15. I Wanna Get High
16. Blue
17. Listen Joe
18. Settled down like rain
19. Angelyne
20. Tailspin
21. Easy Chair?
22. Vagabonds
23. ?

Sorry for the question marks. I saw that two people got setlists maybe they can help fill in the blanks. If anyone is interested in trading email me at blakeh_007@hotmail.com

I'm thinking "Until You Came Along" is #23 (23!!!!) and 14 was Three Too Many (a rocker with a killler hook - "They'll Promise the Sun, but look what they've done..."). I have been bopping to that tune since Friday night. (I'm guessing this all from the setlist posted on GLM.com)

These songs were just MEANT to be played live. And he is the right guy to do them. GL is very, very good at his job.

Nice review and the Sadies showed up too? Did you all know that this was going to go down? Sweet!

Cannot wait to see your photos!

03-31-2008, 06:53 PM
Yeah, Gary told Timmyb and I that the Sadies would come on when he sat down with us before the show. We had actually been discussing the possibility of a surprise Sadies appearance before Gary came by.

Sweet is right!

hey, I"m back. I had trouble for two days getting on here.. of all the times!!
It was the something on my computer, had to clear up something and it came back.

I have posted on gary's board .. basically I video'd the show and we'll have something to show the world. A sneak maybe by Wed night that my boyfriend will put up of something he thinks. (I have a concert tonight Shelby Lynne and Tift tomorrow so can't work on it) But my guy can.
I did the up in the balcony back of the room footage on a still tripod and the canon mini dv was surprisingly good capturing good and close. It turned out fine of the tape I viewed last night after the show. I have two more tapes to view.
Aldo did the second camera in the front row with close ups .. We got Vetiver's set too, including some of the new songs not yet recorded, how exciting..
Very nice guys. I brought them custard tarts from the portuguese bakery because that's the neighborhood the club is in.

It is so great to have had that opportunity to capture the show. I'm lucky I am trusted and I know people with the right equipment to use for free until I can buy my own as I get better.
Gary and Vetiver had a great light show too!! It adds to the footage, they had designs and colours, green, red dots in lines, blue wash at times I liked..

03-31-2008, 08:34 PM
Great to hear the video turned out well.

As far as the lights, I enjoyed most of it, but I loathe the red wash. It looks horrible in photos anyway.

03-31-2008, 08:46 PM
red wash is hard.. especially for photos..
the lights changed often enough.. blue was my liking.
Maybe its the light guy that's local?? maybe it has nothing to do with the band... I'll see the guy tonight again and ask.

I directly asked Gary while he signed my cd how he felt on tour... like the gig a day, a different town a day.. and he said this is nothing, such a short tour. So he's in good form and not tired.

I asked what's next, and he said, 'I don't know' sorry to paraphrase, but sort of like that... but he's all ready to make another like he said in an interview I read.
He's all good to go.... ready for the next thing. A happy man.

True-K I would love a copy of this if it is possible. My video has alot of heads in it, and one drunk guy that was removed from the venue a few minutes after he elbowed my wife out of the way at the bar. I loved Vetiver too, I wish I had taped some of their stuff. It is soo cool that Gary hangs out with the fans, this was by far the best concert I've been to. Did anyone audio tape it?

03-31-2008, 09:08 PM
Bte, I hope your wife wasn't hurt by the drunk. People sure get rude. :p

Unfortunately I didn't see any tapers, so unless someone had a patch into the soundboard, we may be out of luck for a strictly audio recording of the show.

03-31-2008, 09:59 PM
No, didn't hurt her but spoiled two songs, one of which was Sound of Lies. We got over it as we watched two security guards escorting him out. My vids are available to anyone who wants them but I am looking forward to the mini DV video recording. Probably much better quality! The PA show was pretty much the same setlist and there's an audio recording of that show for download that I can jam in the car.

Alright, well, here are my pictures from the show (http://www.craigchapman.ca/galleries/garylouris2008/).

I'll get Vetiver up later this week, probably Wednesday night when I also do pics from Tift Merritt (if she lets me).

04-03-2008, 09:56 AM
Gorgeous pics Truscott! I've never seen a bad picture of Gary anyway!

04-03-2008, 10:29 AM
Thanks GG! I do have bad pictures of Gary, but they're not seeing the light of day. ;)

BTW, I don't know if you saw in the other thread, but I DID tell Gary you said hi.

04-03-2008, 06:46 PM
I think the sadies/gary louris song will be ready late tonight. We tried this morning but the file was too big after working on it for 5 hours rendering and editing last night, and Aldo went to work where he can't do internet stuff on the job. nearly there.

04-03-2008, 08:25 PM
Oh.. its up!! Ain't going no where.... Sadies and Gary Louris

04-03-2008, 08:44 PM

04-03-2008, 08:49 PM
That is awesome! I love the videography!

I'm so glad you were able to film the show.

04-03-2008, 09:27 PM
Wow! Amazing quality Kelly! Thanks for sharing!!!

04-03-2008, 10:58 PM
I'm the camera overview, and look, I can see Timmy and Truscott clearly in the front row, at times. It's the close ups that make it.. and the editing. What Aldo did was take my camera sound and his camera sound and put them left and right, combined stereo.. He has great skills. It's compressed a bit too. It looks way better on dvd than on the computer youtube.
Will work on getting all the overview footage over gary and company and they will pick two songs to edit and that will be next .
I will do the the second desired.. learning to edit.
This technology is so amazing, that you can recreate the feeling of the show, almost!
