Jayhawks

Canterbury Park-Shakopee, MN-September 15, 2001

The first Cities 97 Concert In The Park featured The BoDeans, Better Than Ezra, Soul Asylum, Jayhawks, Tim Mahoney and (performing solo) Mason Jennings. Because of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon four days earlier flights were cancelled and previously scheduled act Five For Fighting were stuck in London. Jen Gunderman and Stephen McCarthy were also unable to fly in for the show so the Jayhawks performed as a power trio. In an interview that was seen on the Jumbotron before their set Gary joked "as Spinal Tap said...I hope you like our new direction." Interesting venue, Canterbury Park is a horse racing track. No horses in sight but plenty of flies and it was a new concert experience to walk past dumpsters marked "manure only". Thanks go out to Karla for letting me use her camera and John O for lending me his ticket so all could see. Click on photos...
