JAYHAWKS / I've heard that . . .

...The Jayhawks FanPage webmaster looks a lot like Heather Locklear.

You be the judge. Here I am hanging out at Lounge Ax with Gary, Jayhawks' guitar tech Blake and Marc.*

...Gary was in a movie.

True, kind of... The 1995 movie is Smoke. It stars Harvey Keitel as an owner of a Brooklyn smoke shop. Every morning at the same time he sets up his camera outside his shop and shoots a photo of people walking by on the street which he collects in a photo album. One day he is showing the album to a novelist played by William Hurt and we catch a glimpse of two black and white photos of Gary and his former wife (who worked behind the scenes on the film). It's actually a very sad part of the movie. I thought so anyway.

...sometimes famous Rock Stars have to do un-Rock Star like things.

True. Here Gary is reading off a list of cars that are about to be towed during the Jayhawks' set at Gabe's. Couldn't they have gotten someone from opening band Kooky Uncle Tony to read it?

...Kraig was up for the part of the Pinball Wizard in the 1975 film Tommy but lost out to Elton John.

False. These rumors may have started because Kraig is a champion Video Golf player and he always looks really cool in his Converse AllStar platform shoes.

...Marc is an author.

Absolutely True. Marc has written two books, Movie Classics and Youth Rebellion Movies. Both were published in 1993 by a publishing company Marc worked for, Lerner Publications. They are written for kids around 13-15 years old.

...sometimes fans get to jam with their guitar heros.

Photos don't lie do they?** Here Gary gets to hang in the background with Semisonic while Jayhawks fan Jim takes over on vocals and lead guitar.

...the Jayhawks wrote some songs for a recent movie.

Yeah, but they didn't make it onto the soundtrack. The movie was 1998's A Cool, Dry Place starring Vince Vaughn which was shelved for awhile and then went straight to video and cable TV. But luckily for us songs that were supposed to be in the film such as "What Led Me To This Town" are on the new Jayhawks album Smile.

...Tim was in The Artist Formally Known As Prince's band the New Power Generation.

Don't think so, but Tim was formally in some R & B and soul groups in Kansas City and he HAS worked with another Minneapolis rock celeb (who was billed as Pablo on the Leatherwoods album Topeka Oratorio).

*sorry, I really don't look like Heather Locklear but at least I have better taste in men and music.

**yeah, sometimes they do ;-)
